There’s moving … and then there’s moving! But even if you’re planning a move overseas – wherever in the world that might be – no distance is too far and no move is too complicated for Columbia Moving Systems.

If you’re lucky enough to be moving abroad – either on a temporary or permanent basis – there’ll be plenty of other things to get excited about and spend your energies on, rather than the chore of packing up everything at home and arranging its shipping to your new destination.

And maybe that’s just as well, because international moving, with all its paperwork, foreign customs regulations, cargo ports, freight terminals and shipping containers, is really no matter for an amateur – it certainly calls for the professional: and we are the professionals ahead of the rest. We need to be; since we stand by our company credo of being the best, the most honest and the most reliable.

In the ten years or so that Columbia Moving Systems have been in the moving business, we’ve had customers half way around the world and back. We’ve moved entire contents of their homes across international borders and into both English and non-English speaking lands. Columbia Moving Systems honest enough, too, to admit that international moving is neither the simplest nor the most straight forward of moves. Indeed, we’d even go so far to suggest that, if your overseas move is on a temporary basis only (for just one or two years, say) that you might be better off putting all your present household possessions into storage at home, rather than sending them to your temporary abroad. It could prove much easier – and not a lot more expensive – to buy whatever you need once you’ve settled into your new home overseas. Your belongings would then be ready and waiting for you when you arrive home again. And, of course, we’re always here to do the moving supplies packing, loading and making whatever storage arrangements you need.

Alternatively, you might decide to take everything with you and we’re just a telephone call away to share our experience and advice about making your international move as effortlessly and as painlessly as possible.

From our own experience in helping customers such as you and from the feedback we’ve received from others who’ve made the move, here are just one or two tips that could make things go all the more smoothly:

• get as much details as you can about the home you’ll be moving into – one of the last things you’ll want to arrange is storage of all your belongings in a strange land. Photos, floor plans and measurements can be a great help in deciding in advance where everything will go and making sure that everything will fit;
• it’s unlikely to prove cost effective or to make very much sense to take your car with you. Either arrange to leave it here at home, if your overseas stay is going to be temporary, or simply sell it if you’re likely to be leaving for good;
• be aware that most other countries have entry restrictions for pets, which might need to be kept in quarantine before you can be reunited with them overseas;
• be sure to check on the health, education and transportation systems in place in the country to which you will be traveling and where you’ll be living; and
• strike up contacts with American expatriates in the foreign country or talk to others who may have spent time living there – they often have a wealth of very practical information and knowledge about everyday things you’ll be wanting to know.
